Shared Space

We are very fortunate because as our site was formerly a primary school it came complete with the existing 1980’s school building that we can repurpose as a common house. Common houses are great.
They are owned and operated by everyone in the neighbourhood and give people the ability to access spaces they otherwise couldn’t afford our would be worth owning alone. They also provide the hub for community interaction.

Internationally common houses within cohousing projects typically house:

  • Dining room / Multipurpose space
  • Small Commercial Kitchen
  • Guest rooms – to reduce the necessity of everyone to have their own
  • Shared laundry facilities – for those who don’t want their own washing machine
  • Meeting Rooms
  • Office space
  • Workshop
  • Teenage rooms for music practice etc. (not currently planning for our common house)

Outside (but still common) we are planning:

  • Children’s Playground
  • Green House / Tunnel House
  • Large Lawn
  • Vegetable Garden
  • Fruit Trees
